Our New Adult's Hospital
The New Hospitals Development will replace the older sections of Manchester Royal Infirmary, creating a new Adults’ Hospital. When combined with the current newer sections of Manchester Royal Infirmary, the new hospital will have 758 beds making it one of the largest hospitals in the UK.
Features will include:
- A Nuclear Medicine Department housing the latest state-of-the art scanning equipment. This is key in the treatment of children and adults with cancer, neurological disorders and epilepsy.
- A dedicated Elective Treatment Centre, where planned day case and short stay procedures will be carried out. This will allow for the separation of planned and emergency treatments, meaning that cancelled operations because of emergencies will be a thing of the past. It will also allow the planned treatment areas to be less clinical than those dedicated to emergency care.
- New style wards containing a mixture of single and 4 bedded rooms, offering more space and privacy for our patients will replace the open, dormitory style inpatient wards which currently exist.
- A purpose built Multi-faith centre where people of all backgrounds and faiths can go to find peace and support.
The first section of the New Hospitals Development will be completed in Autumn 2006. It will contain dedicated facilities for kidney patients, including dialysis and transplantation, and will house the Manchester Heart Centre.
